Hervey Bay Art Society Inc. - Gallery 5
Official PartnerHervey Bay Art Society Inc. – Gallery 5 is the Fraser Coast's welcoming home for visual arts, housed in a converted heritage bakery at 5 Sandy Street, Urangan. Open seven days a week with free entry, Gallery 5 presents a rotating calendar of member exhibitions, creative workshops, and original fine art for sale — all in a space shaped by more than five decades of community passion. The Hervey Bay Art Society has deep local roots, having come together in the early 1970s when a handful of local artists decided to formalise their shared love of making and showing art. Fundraising over many years allowed the group to secure a permanent base — a character-filled former bakery in Sandy Street, Urangan — which was purchased in 1993. Gallery 5 opened its doors to the public on 9 August 1996 and has since grown to become the largest art gallery in Hervey Bay, supported by a membership of more than 100 artists. Step inside and you'll discover a rich collection of original works — paintings, pastels, life drawings, and three-dimensional pieces — refreshed regularly through themed shows and member exhibitions. The society's Annual Competitive Art Exhibition is a flagship regional event that attracts entries from across the Fraser Coast, drawing art lovers from near and far each year. Creativity is very much hands-on at Gallery 5. The workshop programme runs year-round, offering sessions in clothed life drawing, pastel florals, wet felting, digital media, and popular Paint & Sip evenings — catering to beginners and experienced artists alike. Many workshops welcome community participants as well as members. Every work hanging on the gallery walls is available for purchase, so whether you're searching for a unique locally made gift or a statement piece for your home, Gallery 5 is worth a visit. Entry is always free — just drop in.
