Beach camping zone 7 - Wyuna and Burad - K'gari, Great Sandy National Park

Official Partner

Wake to the sound of rolling surf and soft sea breezes at K'gari's most effortless stretch of beachfront camping. **Pitch your tent in Beach camping zone 7 – Wyuna and Burad – a wild, no-fuss base between Dundubara and Indian Head with 4WD beach access and big skies full of stars.** Set up in the dunes at Wyuna or Burad on K'gari's eastern beach and fish, wander and unwind in a true back-to-nature experience with no facilities. These open beach spots welcome tent campers alongside their 4WD, walk-in adventurers and off-road camper trailer rigs alike. Phone signal comes and goes, and campfires are not an option here. If you need power, generators are welcome between 9am and 9pm provided they stay under 65dB and 2.0Kva. Arrive from 2pm onward and wrap up camp by 11am on departure day—the zone itself is accessible around the clock. Secure your camping and vehicle access permits well ahead of peak periods, and always time your beach run to coincide with low tide conditions. What's the set-up and who is it for? This is open beach camping with no toilets. It's ideal for self-sufficient campers with high-clearance 4WDs, tents or off-road camper trailers. Up to five vehicles are allowed per permit. Families should note there's no dingo-deterrent fencing here; QPWS recommends families with children choose fenced areas elsewhere on K'gari. Where is Beach camping zone 7 and how do I get there? Wyuna and Burad occupy a quiet stretch of K'gari's eastern beach, tucked between Dundubara to the south and Indian Head to the north. The island sits roughly 15km from Hervey Bay's shores and around 300km north of Brisbane [VERIFY]. Reach K'gari by high-clearance 4WD vehicle (via barge), on foot, by light plane or with a commercial tour operator. Remember that the Eastern Beach scenic drive is only safely passable within about two hours either side of low tide. What can I do nearby? Stroll or 4WD to Red Canyon to learn about the Butchulla people and pay respects to Country. South at Dundubara you'll find coin-operated showers and a walking route around Wun'gul Sandblow to Lake Bowarrady. The zone is a favourite for beach fishing and unbroken horizons. How do I camp safely here? Follow QPWS park alerts and the K'gari conditions report before travelling. Be dingo-safe at all times—recent heightened activity has been recorded along the eastern beach, including Zone 7. Set camp above the high-tide mark, avoid trees in wet/windy weather, and drive cautiously for washouts, coffee rock and debris. Are there any current access changes? After significant weather events, beach tracks north of Ngkala Rocks can become difficult or impassable, and isolated camping zones may face temporary closures due to erosion impacts [VERIFY current closures via QPWS]. The Woralie Road Dump Ezy is currently out of service; waste facilities can be found at Dundubara, Orchid Beach, the Cornwells Road eastern beach entrance and the Hook Point Road 11km exit point—always confirm availability through QPWS Park Alerts before you travel. Ready to roll the swag out on K'gari's sands? Book your camping and vehicle permits via Queensland National Parks and time your beach run with the tides.
