Gum Tree Lodge & Bush Camp
Official PartnerSlip into bush tranquillity at an adults-only base in Howard on the Fraser Coast. **A peaceful lodge and bush camp on 40 acres with powered bush sites and Australia's only powered deck sites over tranquil dams — dog-friendly, magnesium spa, and an easy hop to Maryborough and Hervey Bay.** What is Gum Tree Lodge & Bush Camp? A laid-back adults-only bush camp and lodge designed for self-contained travellers who prefer nature, space and simplicity. Set among gum trees with three dams, the property offers dozens of powered bush sites plus a dozen powered deck sites positioned to make the most of those peaceful water views. Friendly owners live on site, and dogs are genuinely welcome. Where is it and what's nearby? You're just 3 km from the historic town of Howard, with Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Burrum Heads and Childers all within about a 30‑minute drive. It's an ideal base to explore heritage streets, seaside esplanades and country markets, then return to the quiet of the bush each afternoon. What facilities will I find on site? Expect the essentials done well: power and water to sites, a dump point, composting toilets, a magnesium spa and fire pits for cosy evenings — BYO wood, noting that seasonal fire restrictions may apply in the warmer months. By design there's no toilet block, camp kitchen, BBQ area, laundry, jumping pillows or a general campground pool — keeping your stay simple and peaceful. Are there accommodation options beyond campsites? Yes. The lodge includes a fully self-contained guest suite sleeping two in a king bed, with an ensuite, full kitchen, lounge and access to the 15 m magnesium lap pool. A separate guest room suits shorter stays, with a queen-single bed, air conditioning, kitchenette and private deck. The guest suite welcomes dogs; the guest room does not. Can I bring my dog? Absolutely. Your four-legged companion is welcome to wander the grounds on a lead, and there's a dedicated off-lead area near the lower dam where they can stretch their legs and cool off with a splash. There's no segregation of guests with pets — just considerate, common‑sense camping and plenty of room to roam. How do bookings and site selection work? Deck sites can be reserved ahead of your arrival online; the team works to honour your preferences, though site assignments may shift to make the best use of availability. Prefer to choose on the day? Bush sites are selected when you pull in. Travelling with friends? You can park awning‑to‑awning. Big rigs are accommodated, noting green grass depends on recent rainfall. Are fires allowed? Fire pits are dotted around the property so you can settle in for a proper bush evening — just bring your own wood and check current fire restrictions before lighting up in summer. Personal fire pits aren't permitted on any deck or on the ground around deck areas. What else adds to the vibe? When guest numbers are right, the owners occasionally host casual pizza evenings on site — a lovely way to meet fellow travellers. The nearby Howard markets run monthly and are well worth a wander. There's also a wonderfully eclectic on-site space filled with collected memorabilia that George is known to show guests around, and sometimes the shed gets thrown open too. Good to know - Council restrictions mean no tents, camper trailers or swags; external shower tents aren't permitted - Grey water tanks aren't required - Deck sites at the top dam include a shared fire pit; the bottom dam cluster offers a quieter, more secluded setting Ready to unwind?
